Thug Life: Anticipated Tamil Film Faces Backlash
The upcoming Tamil film Thug Life, set for release in 2025, is generating significant buzz as it marks the second collaboration between renowned actor Kamal Haasan and acclaimed director Mani Ratnam. The recently released trailer has garnered positive feedback from viewers. However, it has also led to discomfort among some netizens regarding the age difference between Haasan and his younger co-stars.
In a particular scene, Haasan shares a kiss with Abhirami, who is 30 years his junior. Another scene features him romancing Trisha Krishna, who is similarly younger. This portrayal has reignited discussions about the portrayal of substantial age gaps in romantic relationships within cinema.

Thug Life features a talented ensemble cast, including Silambarasan, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
The film previously made headlines when Kamal Haasan chose to delay the audio launch due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor and a terror attack in Pahalgam. In a statement, he emphasized, "Art can wait. India comes first," and announced the postponement of the event originally scheduled for May 16.
Haasan expressed his belief that this was a time for solidarity rather than celebration, stating, "As our soldiers stand firm on the frontlines with unflinching courage in defense of our motherland, I believe it is a time for quiet solidarity, not celebration. A new date will be announced at a later, more appropriate time."
He concluded by stating, "At this time, our thoughts are with the brave men and women of our armed forces who stand vigilant, safeguarding our nation. As citizens, it is our duty to respond with restraint and solidarity. Celebration must make way for reflection."
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Thug Life is slated for theatrical release on June 5, 2025. This film marks the first collaboration between Haasan and Ratnam since their 1987 classic, Nayakan. The production is a joint effort by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies.
